It was established in 1967, It is a specialized organisation of the UN and serves as a global-level organisation for regulation in the field of intellectual property. With the rapid modernisation in the field of technology and global ageing, WIPO’s work has significantly uplifted itself as it deems to address forthcoming challenges, facilitate international cooperation, and ensure that intellectual property rights are protected globally.
It is an international organisation which is a part of the United Nations Organisation. It works for only those countries who have signed the treaties in this context and helps the nationals of various particular countries who are willing to work or just showcase their talents in other respective countries. This article is an attempt to analyse the importance and role of the World Intellectual Property Organization in promoting and protecting the Intellectual property rights all over the globe.
MODERNIZATION OF IP RIGHTS
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) works efficiently to promote and safeguard intellectual property rights across the globe, pushing innovation and creativity across various levels. There are various international treaties administered by WIPO, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) of Paris, the Madrid System for international trademarks, and the Hague System for industrial designs. These treaties provide an organised process for obtaining patent, trademark, and design protection and registration in different countries, on the other hand, it reduces the chaos and costs that come with seeking protection globally.
Moreover, World Intellectual Property Organization actively promotes the effective enforcement of IP rights, recognizing their critical role in economic growth and development. It provides technical virtual assistance and capacity-building programs to its help member states empowering their IP regulations and implementation of IP laws. By supporting vocational initiatives, WIPO empowers officials and professionals worldwide to tackle IP-related issues effectively, and other infringements that harm innovation and creative industries.
IMPORTANCE OF WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATION (WIPO)
This organization has much significance all over the world. The signatory countries are bound by their rules and regulations and various policies and cannot breach or violate any of these rules imposed by World Intellectual Property Organization. WIPO is an organisation that protects the rights of creators, innovators and artists under its umbrella by protecting their rights and providing several priviliges. WIPO is very important in the present time where the world of science and technology is developing day by day and taking a new shape.
One of the main purposes of this organisation is to encourage and support such innovative ideas and preserve them so more people can come forward to contribute to the economy and development of the country. In this context, while protecting the rights it also provides the provisions of punishment for those who violate the provisions of treaties and disobey the organisation. If anyone uses someone else’s work without proper authorization and licence then he/she should be held guilty of infringement and shall be punished accordingly.
